Mystery Haunted Halloween Quilt Along Part 1

I did it again! I started another sew along. How many am I doing now? I think I’ve lost count…Anyway! Fat Quarter Shop has just launched the first block pattern to their mystery quilt along called Haunted Halloween. Every year they release a free halloween inspired quilt along and I just had to join in on the fun!

This year I decided to order the Haunted Halloween mystery quilt kit and sew along with the same fabrics as Kimberly Jolly. I already knew I loved this fabric collection, so why change it? Take a look at all those cute little ghosts and pumpkins. How can you not like this collection called Owl-O-Ween by Urban Chiks?

Like I said, week 1 has been released on Fat Quarter Shop’s website and I already got to sewing! There are a few small pieces to this pattern, but definitely still beginner friendly. I immediately started with making as many flying geese blocks as I possibly could. The only thing I changed is I pressed all my flying geese units open instead of to the side.

I also loved that I didn’t need to worry about nesting seams together in the bat block. It made for some really easy and quick sewing!

Week 1 had a lot of sewing fun to it! Not only did I make the bat block, but I also had to make 5 star blocks to go with it. I think these are the smallest star blocks I’ve ever had to make so far. I also noticed it took me twice as long to make the star blocks as it did to make the bat block.

Once all those star blocks are sew together, don’t forget to do the last step and sew them into rows with little spacers in between them. I’m saying this because I also almost forgot myself!

This sew along is absolutely adorable and I am so excited to see what next week brings! Let me know in the comments below if you are sewing along. Happy quilting!
