I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving this year! I was very happy to spend time with my family and eat all the delicious Thanksgiving food. My sewing life on the other hand has been a struggle. I have been waiting weeks for more Best Press, batting, stabilizer, and still none of it is here… It’s really holding things up. However, I was able to get a few Sewcialite blocks done and I do have plenty to talk about on what I have been up to these past couple weeks. So for today’s post, let’s talk about Sewcialites! Also, I’m behind…oh well!
Sewcialites
Out of all the sew alongs I’m doing, this one is definitely the most difficult. I feel like I’m learning a lot and growing my skills though! As a reminder, I’m doing the 6″ blocks and realized I’m not used to sewing with such tiny pieces. I can only imagine what it’s like to do the 3″ blocks. Plus, the sew along started with a couple blocks that are meant for experienced quilters, and I feel like I’m more of an intermediate quilter. However, I pushed through and got these blocks done! I’m so proud of myself. Let me show you!
Week 2: Tussy Mussy Block
This has been the hardest block for me because of the petal unit. I have never made one of those before and the first time I tried, I totally did it wrong! In the picture below the wrong units are in the top right corner, and the correct units are underneath. Adding that white dot fabric really changed up the look!

Second time is the charm I suppose! I did have a few issues with making the petal unit straight. With a little trimming, I was able to figure it out and make an acceptable petal unit! It turned out pretty cute, but I definitely need more practice.

Once the petal units were made, the rest of the block was a breeze! I love the scrappy backgrounds I decided to do with this sew along.

Week 3: Patchy Days Block
I actually really enjoyed sewing this block together. I had the hardest time deciding on color choices. I wanted to use one of the black fabrics in the collection, but didn’t want that color to take over the block and stand out like a sore thumb. So I got creative!

Since there are so many small pieces, I used my chain piecing skills to speed up the construction of this block!

If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll already know I don’t enjoy pinning, but his block required it!

It was all worth it though because this block turned out really cute! I think it’s one of my favorites in the sew along so far.

That’s all I could get done! Without Best Press, all my sew alongs are on hold right now. I do believe I can get all caught up with all these blocks once I have what I need. I even tried to do a nativity panel while waiting, but halfway through found out I had the wrong stabilizer to finish up the project…I still can’t believe I ordered the wrong one initially. On a brighter note, I do have Jenny’s Countdown to Christmas box in my sewing room to show you all! That will be in another post though, so check back later on!
I hope you all are enjoying the holiday season! It’s my favorite time of year. We even have snow here in Washington! Seems kind of early in the year, but it definitely feels like winter now. Happy sewing!
