We have so much to talk about for sew along post! I have been busy sewing away on all the fun blocks that came out this last week. Can you guess which one I decided to do first? You guessed it! Sewcialites!
Sewcialites
This sew along is managed by Fat Quarter Shop and is the second time they are doing this. They worked with many different designers to create free block patterns to be released every Friday. This sew along goes on for months and they give the option to do the 9″, 6″, or 3″ blocks. I decided to do the 6″ block for this go around. Not too big, not too small, and just the right amount of challenge. Did I mention the first block they released was meant to be for experienced quilters? I suppose that’s me now…or at least I’m going to fake it till I make it. So let’s get started and pick out our fabrics!

As mentioned in the previous post, I am using Lella Boutique’s latest fabric collection called Country Rose for this sew along. My goal for this first block was to make it happy and bright. I decided to leave out the black for this week, but plan to use it every other week so it doesn’t take over the quilt. I realized pretty quick after cutting that even the 6″ block pieces are pretty small and I couldn’t imagine sewing the 3″ block! Maybe next year we’ll give that a try 🙂

I decided to put this block together in a different order and worked from the middle first. It just made more sense in my brain. I also wasn’t quite sure how I was going to press my seams, so I made my decisions last minute based off of how the fabric was acting. I ended doing a combination of pressing to the side and pressing open. I think it worked out pretty well!

In my opinion, once the middle was done, the outer sections were easy. I did have to seam rip the middle twice before I felt like my points were right, or close enough at least. The rule I follow is if I can’t see my points are off when I step back, then it’s good enough to move on! I love how the block turned out and am even happier with my color choices.

Oh, Happy Days!
If you are a beginner and looking for a sew along you can follow along with, this is the sew along for you! We are in the fifth week and so far these blocks have been pretty easy to put together. Not complaining here! After putting together my first Sewcialites block, I welcomed the easiness of this sew along.

It was like a breath of fresh air. With some color changes and using the stitch and flip method, this block went together in no time!

Home for the Holidays
Anyone out there want to make almost 100 half square triangles for one block? I’m sure most of you did not raise your hand, but that was the next block in the Home for the Holiday’s sew along! You know what happened while I was prepping my fabric? I ran out of Best Press…so that put a quick halt to this project. Oh well, I’ll be back at it by the end of the week. Stay tuned!

Wow, that was a lot of work. Can you believe we have one more sew along to start by the end of October? I won’t tell you which one yet, it’s a secret, but if you do your research then you may be able to figure it out. Let me know in the comments below which sew along you think I’ll be starting by the end of October. Happy sewing!
