Ready for another sew along? Corey Yoder just started a new sampler sew along that uses her new book called Oh, Happy Day! I bought her newest fabric collection, Buttercup & Slate, just for this sew along and love how the first block turned out!

Any new quilter can do this block and the season quilter will appreciate the easiness of it. Don’t worry about half square triangles, flying geese, or flip and stitch. Just some good old fashion sewing rectangles together to get a really pretty block!

Feel free to have fun with color placement and try out different combinations! I chose my favorite fabrics and used them in this first block. This time I decided to follow Corey’s suggestion and pressed most of my seams to the dark side.

One of my favorite sewing tips to share is how to make your block extremely flat once your done sewing. Give it a really good press to heat up the whole block and then leave it sandwiched between two wool pressing mats. The trick is to let it sit between the two mats until it’s completely cool. Once cooled, you’ll find you have yourself a very flat quilt block!

Just like that, your first block for this sew along is all done! Let me know in the comments below if you are sewing along and which fabrics you’re using. Anyone out there going completely scrappy? I would love to know!
