Does life get in the way and push all your plans back sometimes? Yes. Let me tell you, life has been a roller coaster for me this past week. So luckily my fabric was waiting for me, in my sewing room, for when I felt ready to sew again.
Best thing about sew alongs? You can do them at your own pace when you have time.
So let’s get into week 2 of the Christmastime sew along with Fat Quarter Shop! This week we will sew together their Hard Candy Christmas block. Don’t let all those little pieces scare you off. This block went together so quickly and I was done in no time at all!

Right away I decided to make some fabric changes. I made the background really light and chose a bright red mistletoe fabric for all the hard candy units.

Want a tip on how to put this block together quickly? Chain piecing all those tiny stitch and flip pieces will speed up the construction of this block.

In order to complete the candy unit, you need to make sure your points match. I use magic pins to help me match my points up before sewing. My favorite magic pins are the extra fine patchwork pins.

And just last like week, I decided to press all my seams open for a flat quilt block.

All done! I know my background fabric this week does not match last week’s background fabric, but I’m going for a more scrappy look. I am excited to see how different my quilt will turn out with just a few changes in color placement.

See you all next week for block 3! Feel free to leave a comment below and let me know if you are enjoying the free Christmastime sew along!
