I splurged! Recently I purchased a fat eighth bundle of the Effie’s Woods fabric collection by Deb Strain, and let me tell you, it’s gorgeous! Every time I buy a new bundle it always looks even better in person than online.
Fabric collections are only available for a short period of time before they go out of production, and since we only live once, I buy what I love!

When looking for a new fabric collection to purchase, I first start off with what kind of tone the collection is giving off. Effie’s Woods has such a soft look to it, the colors are not too overwhelming, and the prints are not too busy. You could easily use this collection for an Easter project or to make a very light toned quilt.

Since I want to use this collection for piecing, it’s important that the scale of the fabric design is not too big. This way when I cut up my fabric, you still get a sense of the design and not lose it. Prints with a big scale tend to work best in borders and backings. Majority of the designs in this collection are the perfect scale for piecing, and I can’t get over the tiny mushrooms! How cute!

I have a few plans for this collection and can’t wait to sew with it. I’m obsessing over the yellows and love the directional cursive fabric that reminds us all that we are loved!
